Dr. Benjamin Gates, OD is an eye doctor and a lifelong resident of the Richmond area. Ben grew up in Chesterfield County, Virginia where he attended Monacan High. After graduating from Monacan, he continued his studies at Hampden-Sydney College, near Farmville, Virginia, where he graduated cum laude, majoring in history and economics.
Once he had graduated from Hampden-Sydney, Ben attended Virginia Commonwealth University in pursuit of a masters’ degree in history. After finishing at VCU, Ben moved to Northern Virginia. There, when going to his annual contact lens exam, Ben first became inspired to become an optometrist. He researched his options and realized that with only a few more classes, he could get into optometry school.
He moved back to Richmond and enrolled as a part time student at VCU. The next year, Ben was accepted into optometry school and attended Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He graduated in 2010 and moved back to Richmond, where he has been living and working ever since.
Dr. Gates, his wife Lindsey, and their two children live in Richmond’s Fan District. In his spare time, Ben enjoys playing and watching all types of sports.
